To be honest, although graphically is great, I believe that the anime is weaker than the 1970s TV series and it is not even close to the 1980s OVAs. The concept is great, but I think that the execution is not as good as the manga of Amon (which at the time had just started and has no direct relation with this anime, much like Shin Mazinger Zero with Shin Mazinger Shogeki! Z Hen). For example, where is Zenon? Perhaps the problem is that the animation focuses too much on the action and violence and very little in the story, completely different from the Amon manga. What bothers me the most is the lack of a proper conclusion, the Apocalypse, as it should have after Miki's death. Not really a bad anime, but I truly believe that all other Demon anime of Nagai, including all not related to Devilman, are better than this one.
One thing I enjoy, though, is the extreme graphical violence, particularly how Amon eats Yumi and how Miki and her brother are killed. Still, I think that the other Devilman's OVAs and Violence Jack have a best performance in that aspect. Also, I like more the Devilman design of the other OVAs, as this one seems less brutal, although I suppose it was necessary in order to showcase Amon.
