ANN wrote:
North American publisher Digital Manga reached its goal of raising US$20,500 in pledges for an English-language printing of Osamu Tezuka's Unico manga on Tuesday. Digital Manga had just starting accepting pledges on the Kickstarter website on Thursday.

The manga centers on a unicorn who has the magical power to help those who love him. The titular character travels through time and to different countries to make new friends. The manga inspired a number of anime adaptations, including two films that Discotek Media released in North America last month.

Digital Manga had said that it will release the manga in a single, full-color volume if it receives US$20,500 in pledges by July 21. Those who pledge to provide funding money will receive bonus extras, including six free issues of Astro Boy Magazine for a US$5 pledge, or the six Astro Boy Magazine issues plus a copy of Unico for a US$35 pledge.

Digital Manga previously funded a release of Tezuka's Barbara manga through Kickstarter in January. It also used Kickstarter to reprint Tezuka's Swallowing the Earth manga last year.

That's nice. Tezuka fans should be really pleased now.

A shame that we'll never ever get some Nagai manga released this way. Somehow there's a stick up Dynamic Pro's ass that makes them turn down every request they get from oversea publishers.

Do Dynamic Pro reject us?!
am I the only one who didn't know this?
How come?, they'll be much bigger that way.

Well, Nagai wasn't pleased with the English releases of Devilman in the USA. Devilman didn't do well in France. Only Grendizer is really popular there.

We usually get English releases of his anime, it's only his mangas that are a real problem to deal with. I heard an unconfirmed rumour is that DP wants to release the mangas in a particular order, so they won't just accept licenses of Devilman without starting with Harenchi Gakuen or something like that.
